Advice
My top six tips for the festival, the trip, and life abroad.
Festival Advice
Talk to everyone, you never know who you’re standing next to! I ended up chatting with so many interesting people. One of the best ways to connect is by starting up a conversation while waiting in line.
Festival Advice
Go to talks you wouldn’t normally choose. Some of the best sessions I attended didn’t excite me at first, but they ended up being some of my favorites.
Festival Advice
Get to the talks early, especially the bigger ones in Debussy and Lumière Theatres, or the talks with celebrities. For the these talks, I arrived about an hour early. Yes, you’ll be waiting for a while, but it’s worth it to get a good seat. Some people were even turned away when it filled up, don’t let that be you!
Trip Advice
When packing, use vacuum seal bags, they save so much room and keep your clothes organized (it’s a game changer). Also, don’t overpack shoes. I brought way too many sandals and barely wore half of them. Stick to a comfy sneaker that goes with everything (you’ll be walking a ton), one good pair of sandals, and maybe a tennis shoe if you plan on working out. You’ll want to leave some space for gifts and purchases.
Abroad Advice
Learn a few basic French phrases. In Cannes, most people speak English, but if you want to truly immerse yourself, learning even a few words makes a difference. Always say bonjour and merci, it shows that you’re making an effort, which locals appreciate.
